Abnormal Dirt. From working in demolitions and under bombed conditions, taking loads of soil, coal etc. : from bags of flour, boxes of cement and dealing with dirty goods.

Abnormal Perspiration. When hauling heavy loads, specially in hot summer weather.

Abnormal Wear and Tear. Through constant movement: friction of lifting heavy weights, loading and unloading; heavy haulage: moving furniture: edges of sleeves frayed by friction of wheel, trousers wear on driving seat, and continually climbing in and out of lorries: the hard washing wears clothes out quickly; shoes are worn on pedals when driving.

Corrosion. Caused by acid from accumulators, and when hauling loads of lime and other corrosive substances.

Cuts and Abrasions from other sources. Clothing is ripped on projecting bits of wire, nails and jagged joists: when carrying glass from broken windows: on projections of damaged cars: handling steel and turnings and tin plates: carting scrap and steel billets to wagons.

Dust. From loading sand, gravel, coal and dusty goods.

Odour. From engine oil and carting oily goods.

Oil, Grease and Soluble Oils. From greasing and washing engines: from cars and pumps.

Weather. Driving in all weathers is hard on clothing.

Wetness. From scrubbing out lorries and handling loads of moist sand.

Other. Long journeys with continual friction impose a heavy strain on clothing.
