SOME CONSIDERATIONS THAT SHOULD BE BORNE IN MIND IN ESTIMATING THE DEMAND FOR CARPETS THAT WILL ACTUALLY BE MADE

It cannot be assumed that housewives will actually carry out their stated intentions with regard to buying carpets even if domestic, economic and other conditions remain as they are at present or develop as expected.

Table 22 shows that in 625 cases out of 651 (95%) housewives were able to say for which room(s) the carpet (s) were required, which suggests a fairly firm intention to buy.

On the other hand we see in table 31, that only 428 out of the 557 (78%) housewives who said they needed room-carpets(s) were able to name a figure at which they wished to buy. A similar position is shown in table 32 with regard to stair-carpets. 296 housewives out of 410 (72/%) were able to name a figure.

Tables 33 and 34 show that 81% of the housewives who say they intend to of buy room-carpet(s) say they will do so within the next 12 months, and that 76% of the housewives who say they intend to buy stair-carpets(s) say they will do so with in the next 12 months.
