5. Window Obstructions

5.1 In order to discover the extent to which present habits of curtaining windows, using windows for display and the obstructing of windows by furniture detracted from the efficiency of windows as light sources, it was decided to record the proportions of windows covered by net, the extent to which curtains covered the window when drawn back, the objects placed in windows for display and articles of furniture which in any way obstructed light from the windows by being placed in front of it.

There were differences in the habits of dwellers in houses and flats and in houses of different ages. In the latter analysis this may be related to the age of the housewife, but in the former it is possible that different patterns of behaviour have become associated with dwelling in houses and in flats.
