KITCHEN FRONT BROADCAST

37 38 39

SECTION 6.

Recollections of and Response to the Kitchen Front Programme heard on the morning of the Interview.

In order to discover the response to the mornings talk the housewives who listened on the morning of the interview were asked three questions:-

No. 4 - “Who gave the talk this morning?”

No. 5 - “What information was given that was useful to you?”

and No. 6 - “Which suggestions did you make notes about?”

The Speakers

There were 268 answers to question 4 which were analysed into groups according to whether the speaker was correctly identified, reasonably described, incorrectly identified and no answers. The weighted proportion for these groups were 36.6%, 16.8%, 19.8% and 26.9%

Four detailed breakdowns are given by “Class”, by “Age”, by “Without or With Children” and by “Urban and Rural” but again it is necessary to notice that no great weight should be attached to these results as the numbers are very small. (Tables 1, 2, 3 and 4).

The Information

Question 5 asked “What information was given that was useful to you” and was answered by 268 listeners. These answers were divided into groups as follows: “Those quoting information given that was useful to them”, “Those who say the talks are useful without specifying information”, “Those who said they found nothing useful in the talk or who were not interested” and “Those not getting any information”. The proportion of those answers in the weighted totals were 55.5%, 4.0%, 12.0% and 28.5%.

The scores were further analysed by Class, Age, Without and With Children and by Urban and Rural. As in the case of Question 4 it should be noted that these figures are rather small for such detailed breakdowns. (Tables 5, 6, 7 and 8). As the numbers of answers were so small it was not possible to give a useful analysis of the items mentioned.
