APPENDIX 1
Letter sent to Firms

Dear Sir,

The Wartime Social Survey of the Ministry of Information has been asked to conduct an enquiry into the feeding of young workers, 14 - 18, in Factories, Offices and Shops.

This inquiry, which has the backing of the Ministry of Labour, is designed to discover what change in feeding arrangements or food supplies would result in the improved health and increased industrial efficiency of this group of workers.

It is proposed that a small number of young workers (between 5 and 10) should be interviewed at their place of work, and asked details of their feeding arrangements, this interview should take about 20 minutes in each case.

The enquiry is to be confined to firms without canteens.

Your Company has been given to us by the Factory Department of the Ministry of Labour as being suitable, and we are therefore, asking if you will grant us facilities for making a small number of interviews as suggested above.

We shall be most willing to fit in with any arrangements you are able to make and you may rely on the complete discretion of our Staff.

Yours faithfully,

MRS. HELEN BROOKE,

Business Manager.
